CASTLE BROMWICH NEWS WROTE
Town In Dominant Mood Against Mikes

In an entertaining match at the Memorial Park, Coleshill claimed a convincing success, having dominated for long periods against a struggling Boldmere side. After gradually gaining the initiative, Town took the lead in the 17th minute. A perfect pass by defender Geoff Stathamn found Roy Phelps, who expertly put Malcolm Stokes through to shake off a challenge and score a fine goal. Coleshill continued to attack, well prompted by Phelps and Boldmere could thank the fine work of young defender David Woolaston for keeping the homesters at bay. Goalkeeper Steve McIndoe also impressed for the Mikes but in the 39th minute Town increased their lead, when winger Eddie Hanlon ran onto a long through pass and brilliantly sped through the Boldmere defence to hammer home a great shot. Shortly before the interval Coleshill keeper Peter Garnell made a good save from a shot by Don Jones as the Mikes enjoyed a rare attack. The visitors fought hard early in the second half, but they were well held by a strong Town rearguard in which Tony Seddon starred. Coleshill regained the initiative to give Boldmere anxious moments and McIndoe was forced into action on several occasions. With the final whistle approaching, Town's pressure was rewarded with another goal. A good header by Stokes was speeding towards the back of the net when full back Kevin Gilliver handled the ball off the line. Phelps easily scored from the resulting penalty kick.
