COLESHILL CHRONICLE WROTE
Things Go Wrong For Coleshill

Coleshill Town, without regular goalkeeper Peter Garnell and full back Midgley, slumped to defeat at the hands of Astwood Bank in this Midland Combination Second Division match on Saturday. Centre half Geoff Statham took over in goal, Martin Curtis went to right back and young Mick Westwood made his debut at outside right. Some good approach work by Curtis and Rawlings enabled Phelps the chance to rocket the ball towards goal, but the shot resulted in the Astwood keeper, Ingram, saving in fine style. Coleshill began to settle down and came close to taking the lead when Sanders's cross from the left was blasted towards goal by Curtis, but again Ingram pulled off a fine save. But Astwood shattered hopes Coleshill had of taking the lead when, after 23 minutes Keith Ingram netted. Coleshill still continued to press forward and Sanders and Phelps missed the goal by only inches. Hanlon had the ball in the net after 70 minutes but the score was disallowed for offside. Ward headed Astwood into a two goal lead and Coleshill looked a beaten side. True, things did not go well for the Town. They could well have had a penalty, and perhaps if they had been at full strength things would have been different.
